America at 250

Triumph, Conflict and the American Experiment
By Terry L. Barlet
Coming July 4, 2026
Published on the 250th Anniversary of American Independence

About the Book

On the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, America at 250: Triumph, Conflict and the American Experiment tells the story of the United States from its earliest beginnings to the present day.

This sweeping narrative history follows the American journey from the first inhabitants of North America through European colonization, revolution, constitutional government, westward expansion, civil war, industrialization, world wars, the Cold War, and the challenges of modern America.

Rather than focusing solely on dates and events, the book examines the larger question that has shaped the nation from the beginning:

How did each generation contribute to the continuing American experiment?

Written for ordinary readers rather than academic specialists, America at 250 presents complex historical events in a clear, engaging, and accessible style while remaining grounded in historical scholarship and primary sources.

About the Author

Though not a professional historian or political figure, Terry L. Barlet has spent years studying the people, conflicts, triumphs, and turning points that formed the American story.

He considers himself a constitutionalist who believes strongly in the foundations of individual liberty, personal responsibility, limited government, national strength, and the enduring importance of the United States Constitution as the cornerstone of American governance.

Through his writing, Barlet seeks to make American history accessible to ordinary readers while encouraging a deeper appreciation for the events, ideas, and individuals that shaped the United States.

Why America at 250?

The 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence provides a unique opportunity to look back on the American journey.

For two and a half centuries, Americans have debated the meaning of liberty, struggled to fulfill the promises of the founding generation, defended the nation in times of crisis, expanded opportunity, confronted injustice, and continuously redefined what it means to be an American.

This book is both a history of that journey and a tribute to the generations who helped build the United States.
